It was reported on 23 September 2016 that a Belfast doctor, Finbar Magee had himself voluntarily struck from the role after RTÉ's Prime Time exposed him as “treating” an autistic child with Jim Humble’s bleach solution, known as MMS.  Magee would have appeared in at a Medical Practitioners Tribunal of the of the GMC, but instead opted for voluntary removal from the role as Medical Practitioner.

In October 2016, Patrick Merlehan, a Bishop in Jim Humble's Genesis II Church was found guilty of manufacuring MMS, and promoting it as medicine.  Expert witnisses testified that MMS is in fact Industrial Bleach.  Merlehan was arrested a few days earlier for growing cannabis.  For manufacturing and selling MMS, Merlehan was fined €4,000.

South Africa

The issue of MMS was brought to the attention of the President of South Africa, and several Ministers was tasked with investigating loopholes in legislation.

In November 2015, the Minister of Health, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi warned that the use of MMS as a cure for Autism is a crime.

The Minister of Health issued an alert to all Hospitals, Clinics and Medical Practitioners to be on the lookout for children who was given MMS and to report such matters to the South African Police Services as Child Abuse.

In April 2016, the Medicines Control Council (MCC) issued a warning on the use of MMS, similar to the warning issued by die Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA.

The South African Government is well aware that MMS is sold as a cure for practical all diseases, and has condemned it.  Persons giving children MMS can be prosecuted in terms of the Childrens Act (Act 38 of 2005). Sale of MMS or CDMMS is prohibited in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act (Act 101 of 1965 as ammended).  The Government is currently drafting legislation to close any loopholes concerning fake and dangerous treatments.
 
On 12 October 2016, the Commision for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (a Chapter 9 Institution in accordance with the South African Constitution), released a prelimenary report on "for-profit" religious groups.  This report will be forwarded to the State President and tabled in Parliament and might have a negative impact on religious groups like the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, Kanaan Ministries and Scientology.
