Hope in Autism

There is hope in Autism.  Autism is not a curse, and it is not the end of the world.
The right assistance is available and no parent have to walk on this road alone.

In the past 10 years I have met extremely wonderful parents of children with Autism.  Among them a teacher who became an expert in teaching kids with learning disabilities.  Her wonderful nearly teenager non-verbal autistic daughter is the youngest student at a prestigious art school.  Another is a mother who started one of the largest autism organizations in India and helped to develop school programs for autistic children and their parents.  There is wonderful and inovative people out there that would gladly assist.  You are not alone.

Most of the time, when a child is diagnosed with Autism, the parents are just left their with a name of a condition.  Nobody refers them for professional help.  If this should happen to you, just know that your child is not diseased or disabled.  He is operating on a different "Operating System".  His mind is different, and he is not less.  He is different, not less.  He is a member of another culture.

Trying to cure your child would not help.  You will only cause mote harm.  Autism can not go away.  It was always here, it is here, and will always be with us.  In the words of Temple Grandin; "The first spear was designed by an autistic caveman while the yakkity yaks was networking around the camp fire."

There is some wonderful organizations that are willing to assist.  I have compiled a list of organizations that will be helpful.  When looking for such organizations, look for the following markers:

• Is it a non-profit organization?
• Is it endorsed by professional psychiatrists or psychologists?
• How do they treat adult Autistics?
• Is there any adult Autistics as part of the organization?
• Does their view of Autism correspond with the DSMIV-TR, DSM5 and ICD10?
• Do they describe Autism in line with the research of Hans Asperger, Leo Kanner, Lorna Wing and Tony Attwood?

Warning signs:

• Do they call Autism a "disease", or any other negative terms?
• Do they promote any "cures"?
• Do they promote any of the persons, organizations or products on my Blacklist?
• According to them, is Autism casued by vaccines, parasites or demons?
